Does SHORTQUTS connect to, or need the internet to function?

No! ShortQuts runs fully offline, and does not require any connection to the internet. It can be used in fully secure, air-gapped environments, subject to internal IT department review, of course.

is this an 'ai' thing?

Nope! ShortQuts was painstakingly developed by hand, utilizing the open-source macOS automation platform, Hammerspoon, to act as a layer between our hard-coded shortcuts, and macOS's System Events and Accessibility components. ShortQuts doesn't record any of your behavior, aside from recording key-presses to re-map shortcuts, so none of what you type is recorded, transmitted, or used to train any artifical intelligence of any sort.

I'M GETTING AN 'ACCESSIBILITY' POP-UP WHEN I LAUNCH SHORTQUTS, WHAT'S THAT?

ShortQuts requires accessibility permissions in macOS in order to automate certain actions through macOS's 'System Events' protocol, such as moving your mouse and simulating keystrokes. Without accessibility permissions, ShortQuts will not function.

When you first launch ShortQuts, you will be prompted with a pop-up asking for accessibility permissions. Follow the prompt, and you'll be led to System Settings, where you'll need to enable accessibility permissions for ShortQuts in the displayed list of applications, by clicking the toggle button.

Is this free? Will you start charging for this?

Yes, it’s free. Actually free, forever, just like Companion. ShortQuts is based on the open-source, MIT-licensed macOS automation platform, Hammerspoon. While Hammerspoon-based applications can be re-branded and distributed commercially, we've opted not to do so, as there are few tools aimed specifically assisting dubbing adapters, and part of our mission is to help build and progress the adaptation and dubbing community.

DOES THIS WORK WITH EVERY VERSION OF VOICEQ?

ShortQuts was built to be used with, and tested on, VoiceQ Writer 9.1. A large portion of what ShortQuts is doing under the hood relies on macOS Accessibility objects exposed in VoiceQ's user interface, which are largely the same between VoiceQ Writer and Pro. So, while not tested on Pro; functionality should be the same.

CAN I MAKE MY OWN Automations?

Unfortunately, no. Each automation is written in Lua script, and targets specific parts of VoiceQ's UI hierarchy through code. These Lua scripts are contained within the .app bundle itself, and in changing them, the app will cease to function. To create your own shortcuts, you'd have to write them into the modular Lua codebase yourself prior to compiling, which is obviously not feasible.
